And the running blackberry would adorn the parlors of heaven
From "Leaves of Grass" by Walt Whitman
Wild blackberry cobbler is a delicious dish that has been enjoyed by Missourians for generations. Blackberries are plentiful in the wild in Missouri, occurring in fields, open woods, and along country roads.
One summer when I was in high school, I spent a week picking wild blackberries with my grandmother in Texas County. It was a plentiful year, and we picked blackberries for long hours morning and afternoon every day, stopping only for a couple of hours during the very hottest part of the day. When I went to bed at night, I saw floating blackberries on the insides of my eyelids. I never lost my appetite for her delicious blackberry cobbler, though!
